SUPPORT is a collaborative project aiming at creating a Training Network for early and mid-career research fellows in Sub-Saharan Africa, focusing on paediatric HIV.
Children living with HIV are at higher risk of severe illness and death from infectious diseases due to weakened immune systems. In Sub-Saharan Africa, where the burden of paediatric HIV remains high, there is an urgent need to improve prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of childhood infections.
To address this challenge, Africa needs more skilled researchers specialised in paediatric infectious diseases and HIV. Investing in local research capacity will help develop better treatments for children living with HIV and generate evidence to guide clinical care and public health strategies.
SUPPORT is a 4.5-year research project funded by the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP3) to strengthen the fight against childhood infectious diseases in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Focusing on five countries,Mozambique, Senegal, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, the SUPPORT project brings together leading African and European research institutions to build local research capacity and train the next generation of skilled healthcare professionals. By investing in local expertise, SUPPORT aims to deliver long-term impact in paediatric infectious disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
